- The WHYS Coach Selection Committee (consisting of the Girls Director, Boys Director, and Director of Coaching and Instruction) will review applications to determine the appropriate coach for each team, which will then be submitted to the WHYS Board for their approval
- Note - coach selection will take place after team rosters have been determined
- Please reach out to Colin Burns, the Director of Coaching and Instruction (doci@whitmanhansonyouthsoccer.org), if you have any questions on the Coach Selection process
- Overview of Travel Team Selection Process (Grade 3+ Only)
- Teams play against teams from other towns in the South Shore
- The goal is to place players on travel teams at the appropriate skill level
- There are multiple divisions at each age group so stronger teams are typically matched up against other strong teams, weaker teams with other weak teams, etc.
- Team rosters are prepared based on feedback from numerous sources including:
- Player evaluations from the tryouts (from both independent evaluators and coach evaluators)
- Player evaluations from recent seasons
- Feedback from coaches, directors, etc.
- The Girls Director, Boys Director, and Director of Coaching and Instruction determine final team rosters, which are then submitted to the WHYS Board for approval
- Any player who signs up for Travel soccer but is not placed on a Spring roster will be refunded their Spring registration fee or given the option of playing in-town recreational soccer (if available)
- Please reach out to Colin Burns, the Director of Coaching and Instruction (doci@whitmanhansonyouthsoccer.org), if you have any questions on the Team Selection process
- Info for Parents Unfamiliar with Spring Travel Soccer (Grade 3+ Only)
- Games are typically on Saturdays although some teams (especially teams in lower Divisions in younger age groups) may play on Sundays
- Players are required to wear official WHYS uniforms, which cost ~$66
- Players returning from last season can wear the same uniform as last season
- Unlike our Fall program where teams have a broad range of skill levels, our Spring teams are geared towards making teams with players of similar skill level who play against other teams of similar skill level
- Many kids, especially younger kids, can be hesitant about “trying out” due to fear of not making a team
- Our tryouts are more of an ID Clinic so we can determine the appropriate skill level for each player and try to match them up to an appropriate team
- We typically have multiple teams at each age group
- Info for Town Recreational Soccer (Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grade 1-2)
- The Spring program is similar to the Fall program and will offer the following:
- Mini-Kickers (Tue & Wed Mornings) - for ages 3-5
- Instructional (Sat mornings) - for Pre-K and Kindergarten
- Grades 1-2 (Sat mornings/afternoons)
- Note - we piloted Grade-specific divisions during the Fall season (1st graders playing against 1st graders; 2nd graders playing against 2nd graders). We will evaluate the feedback from parents/coaches at the end of the seaon to determine what will be offered in the Spring
- Info for Town Recreational Soccer (Pilot Program for Grades 3-8)
- Last year, WHYS partnered with Resendes Soccer Academy (RSA) to offer an in-town recreational program for Grades 5-8 as an alternative to Spring Travel Soccer.
- This involved a weekly skills session run by RSA coaches, which ended with a scrimmage.
- For the coming Spring season, we have extended this option to Grades 3-8.
- Sessions will be held on Saturdays (exact time TBD)
- Session are Co-Ed, but may be separated depending on numbers
- If numbers are strong enough, we may look to offer a rec league similar to our Fall soccer set-up
- The program will run for 8 weeks (Apr - Jun)
- Additional training or practice opportunities may be offered by WHYS
- All players will receive a town recreational shirt
- Please appreciate this is still a pilot program and subject to change as we finalize the details
- We hope this will be a successful option for players & parents who are looking for a Spring alternative to our usual travel soccer league
