Goals of Program
The WHYS travel soccer program involves boys and girls in 6 age groups (Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, Under 18, and Under 19) in a competitive soccer program. The main objective of the program is for children to compete in an organized program, while learning soccer skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, etc. Teams in the U-10, age groups play in a 7 v 7 format. Teams in the U12 age group play in an 9 v 9 format and U-14+ age group play in an 11 v 11 format. Boys and girls in all age groups are on separate teams. The program consists of an 8-week regular season with games on Saturdays or Sundays.
Travel teams offer an opportunity beyond recreational soccer for player development and competition in a statewide system of age-level play. Our goals for the season are three-fold: increase player knowledge of the game, build on team tactics and, most importantly, keep the game safe and fun for all involved with an emphasis on good sportsmanship.
The travel program is run by the South Shore Soccer League. Players will be placed on teams based on coach & coordinator evaluations, tryouts and DOC evaluations with board oversight of the process.
U14 through U19 teams are limited to 18 players each, U12 teams are limited to 15 players, and U10 teams are limited to 14 players. WHYS tries to accommodate every player that signs up for spring soccer, however, the number of teams is based on the number of coaches available. The South Shore League places teams in divisions according to past records and number of teams needed for each division. HYS can make suggestions on team placements, but the South Shore League board makes all final placement decisions.
